Interesting discussion on the direction of lens design:

Over 150 years in business, Zeiss is a leader in lens technology. In this video a company representative at the US based NAB convention covers their 2013 new addition to lenses specifically made for DSLRs.

At over 4000USD this lens is not cheap however Zeiss sees this as a lower priced, future proof option to more expensive film lenses.

2013 saw an explosion of 4K imaging in video production which prompted the design of new lenses to meet the demands of improved sensor technology. Zeiss continues to evolve to capture more image detail to keep pace in both the still and motion image worlds.

Interesting discussion on image resolution, which is defined by sensor and pixel sizes, and how this drives the question of where the direction of sensor sizes is headed.
